A lot has happened since I put up my blogpost on “Blitzkrieg Bopp”. What started as a “sure, let’s see what happens” has within days evolved in a something that is very real.
The most overwhelming has been the response from people volunteering to travle to Haiti with me. They came from all across the globe and I know have volunteers from Ireland, Germany, the US, Peru & Tunisia. There were qualified wifi & network engineers but also project & team managers, security personnel and more.
The feedback via Twitter has also been tremendous with a big show of support. This also let to a short interview of Irish radio this morning. In the process of arranging the logistics of these whole exercise I have spoken to people far & wide. There was the Irish Department of Defence, the Department of Foreign Affairs, The RAF, USAF, a number of civilian airlines, people in Cisco Systems, Xirrus and a number of other hardware manufacturer. I have also been in contact with people from the relief organisations already on the ground in Haiti: Nethope, Multilink, UN, Inveneo, Haven Partnership, GOAL, Irish Red Cross as well as a two of the local Telcos (Digicel & Comcel).
The most valuable information was given by individuals who could give me first hand feedback from what it is like in Haiti now.
So, much more to come and much more to do. Keep reading!
